2-THREADING ON A LATHE -

The key to all of this is marking the ends and outs of the crosslide micrometer and the correct mark on the threading dial. I have always used a red grease pencil for these marks.

The image above shows the threading rod engagement handle and the threading dial.

As for control see the two videos below. They are videos from other topics but show how you can use the cross slide micrometer to mark a position, back off, and go back to that position when ready so that each cutting pass of the operation is exactly where expected. Notice how lathe's micrometer collar can be loosened, the dial turned to any coinvent position, and then locked again. It's a good idea to zero all of your micrometer collars before making the first threading pass.
