Subassemblies are used for various reasons:

For convenience, so that the final assembly consists of a fewer number of more easily handled parts.

For practicality, because it would be difficult or impossible to perform some assembly steps, such as welding, brazing, or pressing, at the final assembly point.

For inspection or testing, because it is important to verify that each part or assembly is correct or working, prior to assembly into a final product.

For distributed manufacturing, because subassemblies may be manufactured by different specialty shops.
