The animation above demonstrates the ease of measuring features on a part by using a screen grid. In this example the measure wanted is the horizontal distance from the vertex on top to the front face of the part. The stage is lowered to utilize the screen grid.

Each square on the screen represents .100 inch on the part. So all we need to do is count over the number of squares and we have the measure we are looking for. This is a very quick way to use the comparator screen without having to use micrometers or DROs.
